Meghalaya Govt awaits report on disappearance of 4,000 tonnes of coal

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister and Home (Police) Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday said the government is waiting for a report on the alleged disappearance of 4,000 metric tons of coal. Once received, an affidavit will be submitted before the Meghalaya High Court.
“We are yet to receive (the report). See we also have to reply to the court. So very soon this will happen and on the basis of the report to be received from the concerned district then we will also file the affidavit before the Meghalaya High Court,” Tynsong told reporters.
Tynsong has asserted that the law will take its course against any illegal activities, including coal mining.
While he hasn’t received specific reports of illegal coal mining, Tynsong assured that the law is in place to address such issues.
“Right now, I have not heard anything about illegal coal mining. But whether we heard or we don’t hear, the law is there to prevail upon those illegal activities,” he stated.
He said that the government has been proactive since 2014 (after NGT ban on coal mining), with the police and district administration working to prevent illegal activities in their respective districts.
“The instruction from the government is very clear that you have to really work hard to make sure that the illegalities do not happen in their respective districts.”nment is clear: work diligently to ensure illegalities do not occur in your districts,” he said.
