The state Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Meghalaya Witness Protection Scheme, 2025 for protection of witnesses of different cases in the state.

Announcing this decision after chairing the meeting, chief minister Conrad K Sangma said the three new laws- BNSS, BNS & BSA have been implemented by the centre and state governments and in this new law there is a provision for protection of witnesses and a system has to be created to protect witnesses.

“Based on that we have approved the rules for the Meghalaya Witness Protection Scheme, 2025 with the objective of giving necessary protection to witnesses in different cases,” he added.
