Meghalaya Govt approves transferring of 708 BWHG posts to SDRF

The state government has decided to transfer 708 permanent posts of Border Wing Home Guards to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) following a court ruling that led to the permanent absorption of these employees.
“We have approved the subsuming of 708 permanent posts of Border Wing Home Guards into the SDRF. This was being done because there was a court ruling many years back,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters after chairing a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
He announced that the government will recruit 708 new volunteers to fill the vacant posts, utilizing funds available from the Government of India.
“…because we will shift them permanently to the SDRF, this will then create a vacancy of 708 people for us to take as volunteers. We will recruit 708 people because this fund is available with governemnt of India…,” Sangma said.
The CM also assured that based on the court’s ruling, the government will take necessary provisions to ensure that similar situations do not arise in the future.
