Meghalaya Govt allows introduction of student uniforms in Govt College

The Meghalaya Government has decided to allow the Government Colleges in the State to come up with uniform in order to foster a sense of belonging among the students of various economic backgrounds.
This was notified in a notification issued by the Meghalaya Education Department vide No.EDN.112/2019/221 Dated 24 June 2025.
The notification informed “In pursuance of requests from Government Colleges and their respective student unions, the Education Department hereby notifies that all Government Colleges shall institutionalize a Student Uniform, with each college having the freedom to design its own.”
The notification also said that the decision is to foster unity, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging among students while reducing visible socio-economic disparities.

Notably, St Anthony’s College, Shillong introduced uniforms for its degree students a few years back.
