    The Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan on Wednesday visited Dawki in West Jaintia Hills and Indo-Bangladesh Maitri Dwar a gate of friendship between India and Bangladesh at Tamabil Border Check Post.

    The Governor interacted with the officials of Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB), where he offered them sweet packets as a gesture of goodwill.

    As part of the tour, the governor visited the recently inaugurated Land Port Authority of India (LPAI) office and Integrated Check Post (ICP), Dawki and held a meeting with the officials of various Central Agencies like Land Port Authority of India (LPAI), BSF, Customs and officials of District Administration including Superintendent of Police,  PD-DRDA, SDO (Civil) of Amlarem and Pynursla Civil Sub Divisions and local representatives, headmen of nearby villages.

    During the meeting, the Governor was briefed about the various aspects of Integrated Check Post at Dawki, the role and responsibilities of Customs and Central Excise Department and implementation of various centrally sponsored schemes including PMAY, MGNRERS, SSA, PM-POSHAN, National Health Mission, PMGSY, etc by the different Departments. The Superintendent of Police, West Jaintia Hills also apprised him about law and order situation in the area.

    As part of his outreach, the Governor also interacted with headmen of local villages and enquired about their hardships and current development works in their respective areas. The local headmen and other officials informed the Governor about poor mobile network coverage in border areas and also requested for getting the Shillong-Dawki Road project expedited. He also had a detail discussion on issues relevant to the development of the Dawki area and instructed the officials to focus on the overall betterment of the people.

    The Governor later visited the Border Out Post (BOP) of the 4th Battalion Border Security Force (BSF) at Dawki, where he was briefed by Pradeep Kumar, IPS, Inspector General of BSF HQ Shillong Frontier on the security measures undertaken by the BSF in the region.

    During his visit, he also visited the famous Umngot River, which is a prominent tourist attraction of the state. The Governor was accompanied by the Commissioner and Secretary, Dr B. D. R. Tiwari, IAS and other officials.
