The Meghalaya Government has issued a notification on August 1 detailing new vehicle restrictions for the Umiam Dam Bridge to ensure its safety. According to the notification, issued by Sanjay Goyal, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary of the Transport Department, and in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 113 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1998, read with Rule 95 of the Central Motor Rules, 1989, these rules are effective immediately.

The notification states that only vehicles up to 2.8 meters in height are allowed to use the bridge. It also specifies that only single axle vehicles with a total weight, including the load, not exceeding 9 metric tonnes are permitted to cross.

These restrictions are implemented to protect the bridge and maintain its condition. Motorists are advised to adhere to these new rules to ensure the safe and continued use of the Umiam Dam Bridge.
