    The Meghalaya Government has announced the immediate release of Rs. 16 lakh as ex gratia payment to the next of kin of the ill fated family of four members who lost their lives in an incident of natural calamity on Sunday morning.

    The ill fated family comprising (L) Biangki Phawa 31 year and his wife Pynjanai Ryngkhlem 25 years and their two children namely (L) Edify Ryngkhlem 6 years and Wiladaroi Ryngkhlem 3 years were buried alive under debris of earth which collapsed from a hilllock besides their home in Pynthorlangtien under Jowai Police Station.

    According to an official statement, due to the incessant rain, the mortal remains of the four deceased were retrieved and necessary legal formalities will be observed.

    The Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District has been instructed to release ex gratia funds @ Rs 4 lakh per person to the next of kin immediately.

    Meanwhile, the Block Development Officer, Thadlaskein C&RD Block has been directed to render any other immediate assistance to the next of kin of family members
