    Chief Secretary DP Wahlang on Tuesday reviewed various schemes and their implementation in Garo Hills districts at Tura in West Garo Hills District.

    Such schemes include: Prime Minister Awas Yojana (Urban/Rural), Status of projects implemented by National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Prime Minister Surya Ghar Muft Bijili Yojana, Mission Education, Aadhar Coverage, Aadhar Seeding with NFSA ration cards, MHIS & Health Infrastructures, Social Security schemes under Labour Department (PM-SYN/ PMSBY/ PMJJBY) including Innovation, Interventions and Success Stories.

    While presenting the physical progress of PMAY in the district, challenges of geo-tagging due to poor network connectivity, problems of beneficiaries residing in government land, Aadhar seeding, etc has been addressed during the meeting.

    Moreover, the overview of the projects implemented by NHIDCL showed constant progress in Tura –Dalu Road, Dainadubi –Darugre while Baghmara to Shillong road is almost completed and takes only six hours from Baghmara to Shillong as presented by the Officials of NHIDCL.

    During the meeting, Wahlang has urged all the Deputy Commissioners to review all the schemes at the district level and keep a track on the progress of these schemes. With regard to PMAY beneficiaries, he said that no households are to be left behind and anyone without a house in the state should be covered under the PMAY scheme. Further, mentioning about the distance shortened to six hours from Baghmara to Shillong, he said that people from Khasi Hills region will now have the opportunity to visit the Balpakram National Park, however, he suggested the Officials of the Forest Department to upgrade and repair the guest house at Balpakram to accommodate tourists visiting the National park.

    Further, while discussing the PM Surya Ghar Mukt Bijili Yojana, the Chief Secretary directed the Planning department to write to CM Solar Mission for convergence and also to work aggressively to meet the required target.

    He also urged all the Deputy Commissioners of Garo Hills region to facilitate the process of Aadhar enrolment and seeding for availing various government schemes. He also directed the Deputy Commissioners to enquire about the programme usually organized by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations earlier as RIC (Rural Information Campaign) to sensitize the people about the schemes and programs of the government.

    The Chief Secretary also urged the officials to highlight the social security schemes and the financial assistance provided to the patients under MHIS scheme by the Government citing that these are the schemes which really help the poor people and urged the department to publish their success stories.

    Meanwhile, the Commissioner and Secretary, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Social Welfare, Pravin Bakshi highlighted on the importance of Aadhar seeding for availing NFSA and other facilities from ICDS and added that massive campaign for Aadhar enrolment is being held across the State since after 30th June 2025, there will be no extension for Aadhar enrolment.

    The Secretary, Education Department Swapnil Tembe also presented the implementation and progress of Mission Education under Phase I, II and III in Garo Hills region including infrastructure upgradation of schools in the region.

    The Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, etc Sampath Kumar also informed about the status and implementation of Meghalaya Early Child Development Mission in the State.
