The Central Puja Committee (CPC) has resolved to request the state government for reopening of all religious places and places of worship across the state.

The decision was taken in the first CPC’s google meet held on August 30, to discuss the Durga puja celebration in the state.

“The meeting unanimously resolved to move a resolution in the general meeting of the Shillong All Faith Forum to be held on 03.09.2020, to request the Govt of Meghalaya to re-open all religious places & places of worship in the state as per guideline/SOP issued by government of India (GOI),” a statement issued by CPC said.

It also informed that the meeting has also asked all community DPC and private Durga pujas to go ahead with preparation for performing all rituals of forthcoming five days durga puja which will commence from October 22.

The statement said the respective puja committees will decide whether to go for Idol puja or Ghot puja.

It said that drum beating  (Dhak) is a part and parcel of Durga puja rituals and therefore, the DPCs who used to  bring Dhakis during previous pujas have been requested to contact their respective Dhakis (Drum Beaters or Bhaona group) for forthcoming Durga puja.

“The CPC, Meghalaya will take responsibility for their entry into Meghalaya in consultation with the District Administration but responsibility for providing 10 days quarantine  accommodation  of Dhakies, if required, have to be made by the respective DPCs,” it further added.
