    The death count in the state due to COVID-19 crossed the 400-mark after 25 persons have succumbed to the viral infection on Friday.

    Of these, 15 deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills district alone while six from West Jaintia Hills district and one each from East Jaintia Hills district and North Garo Hills district, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War told reporters.

    The state has also detected 828 new COVID-19 cases taking the total active cases to 6,861.

    Dr War said the new cases include 392 in East Khasi Hills, 170 Ri Bhoi, 79 West Jaintia Hills, 59 West Garo Hills, 35 South West Garo Hills, 27 East Jaintia Hills, 19 North Garo Hills, 19 East Garo Hills, 12 West Khasi Hills, 9 South Garo Hills and and 7 South West Khasi Hills.

    He also informed that 419 patients have also recovered from the viral infection during the past 24 hours.

    Of these, 253 are from East Khasi Hills, 60 West Garo Hills, 33 East Jaintia Hills, 23 Ri Bhoi, 18 West Khasi Hills, 11 West Jaintia Hills, 10 South West Garo Hills, 5 North Garo Hills, 3 South Garo Hills and 3 East Garo Hills.

    So far, the state has detected a total of 27,755 COVID-19 cases out of which 6,861 are active cases, 20,480 recovered and 414 deaths.

    With 3,881 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 970 cases.

    There are 529 cases in West Garo Hills, 475 West Jaintia Hills, 279 South West Garo Hills, 222 East Jaintia Hills, 180 West Khasi Hills, 113 North Garo Hills, 82 South Garo Hills, 81 East Garo Hills and 49 South West Khasi Hills.
