Meghalaya: Couple arrested for drug trafficking

A couple was arrested after heroin worth over Rs 3.60 lakh was recovered in their vehicle in the city on Wednesday evening.

Lucky Rana (35) and his wife Klissida Nongkynrih (42), residents of Bishnupur were intercepted by the Anti-narcotic task force (ANTF) team at Umshyrpi bridge, East Khasi Hills superintendent of police, S Nongtynger said.

He said in presence of independent witnesses and investigating officer from Jhalupara beat house, search of the accused vehicle (ML 05 E 7993) was conducted and a bag with 4 soap cases containing suspected narcotics was found.

He said a preliminary test has indicated the suspected contraband to be heroin whose total weight is found to be 46.10 gm and the market value being Rs 3, 60,000.

A  case  under the NDPS Act is being taken up, the SP said.
