  • Meghalaya CM wants more departments in NEHU’s Tura Campus & filling up of vacant posts

    The Meghalaya Government appealed to the Central Government to fill up the numerous vacant posts both administrative and teaching in North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) while rued over the appointment of Ex-Army officer without an academic background as Registrar of the central University in the State.

    The Meghalaya Government through Chief Minister Conrad Sangma made the appeal in a letter to Union Home Minister Dharmendra Pradhan submitted on Tuesday in the National Capital.

    Sangma informed the posts of Pro-Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Finance Officer, University Engineer are lying vacant in the University and they are requires to be filled by regular candidates.

    He also said the post of Controller of Examination is also presently held by an Ex-Army Officer without academic background.

    The letter pointed that over 200 positions of Teaching faculties and Non-Teaching staff are lying vacant and they has temporarily been filled by contractual workers. It also said there are posts that are vacant due to retirement of employees. Such posts are also required to be filled.

    The NEHU Campus in Tura is functioning with a lot of deficiencies, Sangma said the post of Pro-Vice Chancellor that has been lying vacant for a long time needs to filled up at the earliest. He also said that there are many posts of faculties that also requires to be filled up.

    The Meghalaya Chief Minister said, “I will appreciate if the Govt of India considers to open up more Departments with futuristic courses in consonance with the New Education Policy in the Tura NEHU Campus for the benefit of the students of the State.”

    Sangma attributed the downfall of overall ranking of the North Eastern Hill University to non-availability of funds for academic improvement & advancement, timely promotions of teachers, overall infrastructure in NEHU-roads, Street lights, Hostels, Quarters, proper Convention Centres with proper facilities for Conference, etc. He also asserted they are major factors that have contributed towards the quality performance of the University.
