Law Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday said the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will soon take a call on meeting the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) to discuss the Lokayukta issue.

“The chief minister will take his decision…,” Lyngdoh said while adding that the minutes of the meeting held today with the delegation of the VPP MLAs led by its president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit will be submitted to the chief minister.

“…we leave it to the wisdom of the chief minister to communicate necessarily what he wants to get done,” she said.

Terming her meeting with VPP ‘fruitful’, Lyngdoh said, “In the meeting, they (VPP) have requested for justification on why is it that there was a change in the appointment of members to the Lokayukta and they indicated that would need another meeting with the chief minister.”

“I have accordingly communicated this request which is very necessary to the chief minister whom I will be meeting shortly after this to further brief him on the details of our discussions,” she added.

Expressing her gratitude to the VPP leaders, the minister said, “I sincerely hope that now that they have suspended their agitation, we will be able to communicate to them exactly the status of a few of the demands that they have made.”

“I look forward to a working relationship which is going to be good for democracy, which is good for democracy and that was the meeting that we had and it was very fruitful,” she added.
