Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday reviewed the flood situation in Garo Hills and directed the respective deputy commissioners to submit a damage assessment report for extending immediate relief to affected families.

The meeting held at Tura, West Garo Hills was also attended by the superintendents of police (SPs), block officials and others.

“Detailed report on the damages that happened has been taken and accordingly instructions have been given to the respective deputy commissioners to ensure that prompt action and prompt relief is given to all the individuals who have been affected,” Sangma said.

The chief minister has also asked for a quick assessment of other damages including houses and agriculture.

“They (DCs) have been asked to submit the report at the earliest so that necessary relief can be given to the individuals concerned,” he said.

Sangma informed that the flood has mostly affected areas under West Garo Hills, South Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills.

Meanwhile, the chief minister also visited the family members of the people who were killed in the landslide incidents and handed over the ex-gratia payment to them.

“I just visited the family members of the people who had died in the landslides. I met the father and the son who survived and I have just handed over the ex-gratia amount,” he said.

Meanwhile, the chief minister will be travelling to the plain belt areas including Rajabala, Phulbari and Tikrikilla tomorrow.

“I will also be assessing the flood situations in those areas also,” he said.
