Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday handed over land lease documents to residents of Balsrigittim and Warimagre in Williamnagar township of East Garo Hills District in presence of MLA Marcuise Marak.

Over 1200 plus residents from both the localities have been living in the Government land for years and had been seeking for land settlement.

The residents of the localities had to face various hardships in absence of land documents necessary to avail loans and other benefits from the Government.

The residents sought the intervention of the Government for resolving the issue and under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the Department of Revenue finally came up with the settlement land document.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister appreciated the effort of the MLA Marcuise Marak for his persistence by bringing different stakeholders together to resolve the issue.

He said that in Tura and Williamnagar, few localities had similar issues with regards to land settlement and the Government has worked out a solution through issuance of the land document that will pave the way for access to basic Government amenities in such localities.

In today’s programme, Chief Minister and local MLA Marcuise Marak had a ceremonial handing over of land settlement documents to 17 residents of Balsrigittim and 6 residents of Warimagre.
