Meghalaya CM empowers frontline workers, unveils health scheme ‘CM Care+

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on June 3 attended a programme organised by the Social Welfare Department at the NEHU Convention Hall, Shillong. The event featured a series of important interventions aimed at strengthening welfare services and supporting vulnerable groups.
Among the key highlights were the distribution of mobile phones to Anganwadi Workers, presentation of certificates to women in need of care and protection who have been trained in self-employment trades from Shillong and Jowai, and the installation of IIT-designed EcoH2O water filters at Anganwadi Centres to ensure safe drinking water for children.
The programme also included the disbursement of cheques to new CM Care beneficiaries, felicitation of achievers from Children’s Homes, and the unveiling of the foundation stone for the construction of a Children’s Home (Boys) at Nongstoin.
In addition, the Chief Minister unveiled the foundation stone and handed over a cheque for the One Stop Centre at Ganesh Das Hospital premises, Shillong, which will serve as a support centre for abused and battered women.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister explained the use of technology in the state’s flagship programmes and highlighted how it has contributed to improving outcomes. He stated that through the MOTHER App, the government has been able to reduce the Maternal Mortality Rate in Meghalaya. “Using this technology and through the other programmes of the state government for safe motherhood, we have been able to reduce the maternal mortality rate by 45%, and the mobile devices that are being given to you today can save and change hundreds of lives,” he said.
He urged Anganwadi Workers to make the best use of the mobile devices in uploading data to ensure effective implementation, planning, and execution of policies and programmes. “The information that you will send to us will help us to intervene, make decisions and take actions that will save and change a children’s lives,” he added.
The Chief Minister further said that technology is not only changing governance but also enabling more impactful governance that helps in achieving goals and targets more efficiently. He noted that the Social Welfare Department is working to touch different lives in society and announced a programme in the pipeline—CM Care+—which will help patients from economically weak families meet their treatment needs for critical illnesses.





Also present at the programme were Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh, Commissioner & Secretary of Social Welfare Pravin Bakshi, among others.
