Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday chaired an important meeting of the Climate Change Council in Shillong, where the government’s ongoing programs were reviewed with various departments.

The meeting discussed collaboration and coordination among government departments and stakeholders to collectively safeguard natural resources and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

During the deliberations, the Council extensively discussed the efforts undertaken by different departments to protect and rejuvenate water bodies, conserve catchment areas, and sustainable management of natural resources.

The meeting was attended by PHE Minister Marcuise Marak, Agriculture & Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, Power Minister A T Mondal, and Minister of Cooperation Coming One Ymbon, alongside officials from Forest and Environment, Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, and PHE, among others.

Urging departments to take concerted and collective action against climate change, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “Our commitment to environmental conservation requires a united front. By fostering collaboration and synergy among government departments and stakeholders, we can forge a sustainable path towards a greener and more resilient future for Meghalaya.”

The meeting underscored the proactive stance of the state government towards addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development practices. MIPR
