Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday asserted the need for political will to find a solution to end the violence in Manipur.

“If we have the political will to move forward in this we can find it. If we don’t, Manipur will take decades to come back to where it was as even now the challenges are huge,” Sangma said while speaking at the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples organized by NEIPF here.

“Today, the people of Manipur are suffering and something has to be done and I hope the Forum will also take up this matter for peaceful resolution in the state of Manipur so that we can reach out to the different communities because at the end of the day we are all brothers and sisters,” he added.

Stating that he has a close relationship with the people of Manipur, the CM however said it pains him today to see the situation that is there in Manipur.

“I have been attached and I have been working, I should say, with the people of Manipur for almost 23 years. I have campaigned in almost every nook and corner of Manipur in the last five elections. From the 2002 election and even before that I have campaigned with my late father from village to village meeting the different communities of Manipur,” he said.

He further stated that the prevailing situation in Manipur is going to be a loss for everyone and said, “The people of Manipur and the people of North East are going to lose.”

“It is a big challenge but I think we need to realise that the path that we are on right now in Manipur is not going to find the solution for us. What is important as I said is we need to bring the realisation in the state of Manipur, we need to bring the realisation to the political leadership there, even at the national leadership that what is happening in Manipur today cannot continue,” the CM stated.
