    Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, today, inaugurated the Indoor Sports Hall, Lummawbah in a function organized by the Dorbar Shnong Lummawbah in collaboration with the Lummawbah Sports & Cultural Club. Also present was Adviser to the Chief Minister, Hamletson Dohling. The indoor sports hall was constructed at a cost of 1.55 Cr.

    Delivering the inaugural address, Chief Minister, expressing happiness and satisfaction in inaugurating the indoor sports hall attributed the fruition of the sports facility to Hamletson Dohling and the Dorbar Shnong who had been working hard for the completion of sports infrastructure. “I am also happy to see that today, the community, political leadership and the government is working hand in hand for the upliftment of our localities, society and the state as a whole,” he said. He further informed that the government believes in working with the community respecting culture, tradition and practices which is why all the programs and policies of the government stresses on community participation.

    The Chief Minister assured of all support to make Lummawbah Indoor Sports Hall into an active zone where youth can engage in different sports. “Sports department and sports infrastructure has in the last seven years seen a massive transformation to give an opportunity to the youth to pursue their talents,” he said. Speaking on having the Meghalaya Games annually and in different parts of the state he stated that games create the bonding, unity and camaraderie. He also added that in modern times there are many distractions and sports, music and arts keep them engaged constructively. “Funds spent on Sports is not an expenditure but investment made in our youth and it is not about just playing the game but the values and discipline you need to inculcate to be a good sportsperson,” he said.

    On requirements from the leaders of the locality for the improvement of the locality and adjoining areas the Chief Minister assured that the demands will be looked into, “I have taken a note of all the requirements and demands and in consultation with the Dorbar Shnong we will take up the ones that need to be prioritized,” he said. He also assured of intervention in the proposal of the Dorbar Shnong to the Tribal Affairs ministry, Government of India for an auditorium for arts and culture.
