Meghalaya Cabinet approves restructuring of SF-10 for better policing
The state Cabinet on Tuesday approved the restructuring of the Special Force-10 for effective tackling of crimes in the state.
“We have decided to restructure the SF-10 to augment the availability of police personnel in the various outposts, police stations in different districts of the state. This will help in curbing the everyday crimes,” Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui told reporters.
He said 482 out of the actual strength of 1,387 SF-10 personnel will be transferred to the different districts for better policing in the state.
“However, 905 will remain in the SF-10 of which 183 will be stationed in SF-10 headquarters, 361 at the tactical base Eastern range to be established in the 1st MLP Battalion and 361 at the tactical base Western Range at 2nd MLP Batalion,” he added.
In line with this, the Cabinet also approved the amendment of the Meghalaya Special Force Amendment Rules, 2016.
Asked, the home minister said that the SF-10 was established purposely to see the overall law and order situation in the state especially with regards to militancy and disaster management.
“As militancy activities all over the state have reduced, there is need to restructure this SF-10 so that maximum benefit can be derived by using its personnel in other districts to curb other crimes that are taking place from time to time,” he asserted.
Similarly, he said the revenue and disaster management department also has its own manpower.
The minister further informed that all entry to SF-10 will be lateral entry from now onwards.
“All the entry to this SF-10 will be lateral entry from any wing of the police may be from battalion or from other wings of the Meghalaya police,” he added.
