This is for reservation of economically weaker sections in civil posts & servces in GoI offices & posts & admission in Central government institutions, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters after the meeting.

Sangma informed the matter has been rectified and the OM was accordingly approved by the Cabinet today.

He said the OM is applicable to persons who are covered under the existing schemes of reservation for SC/ST and the socially and economically backward classes.

“Therefore, this does not apply to majority of the population of Meghalaya,” he added.

Quoting the guidelines as per the OM, the chief minister said the families whose incomes are less than Rs 8 lakh they will get this economically weaker section certificate but if these families also inspite of having 8 lakh and less income if they still have 5 acres of agricultural land and above they will be entitle to the certification.

“If they have residential flat of 1,000 sq feet, if they have residential plot of 1,000 sq yards and if they have residential plot of 200 sq yards in non-municipal areas even they will not be entitled,” it said.
