With the demise of Sushil Kumar Modi, ex-Deputy Chief Minister and also Finance Minister of Bihar, on 13th May, Indian Politics has lost an indomitable leader, creating a void that will be difficult to fill. His hard work and efficiency as an administrator will be sorely missed by the nation in general and Bihar in particular, his contribution to Indian politics will serve as an inspiration to generations of future leaders.

A product of the JP movement and a fierce opponent of the emergency imposed by the Congress, Shri Sushil Modi is often credited with transforming the BJP into a formidable force in Bihar, steering the party even as it emerged as the principal Opposition in 1995. He was instrumental in building strong ties with NDA ally and JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar.

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi too remembered with gratitude, Shri Sushil Kumar’s role in ensuring the passage and implementation of GST.

Meghalaya BJP spokesperson Arnab Das, fondly reflected on the departed leader’s steadfastly honest nature and resolute pursuit of justice; his determination finally resulting in the conviction of Lalu Yadav in various corruption cases.

“Shri Sushil Kumar Modi extensively toured Meghalaya during the assembly elections of 2008 and developed a strong attachment to the state and its people. On various occasions, during personal interactions with Sushil Kumar Ji, he would often display keen interest in the welfare of Meghalaya. His honesty, dedication to a cause and conviction of faith will continue to motivate us in BJP, his memories will always glow in our minds,” Arnab Das said.

Meghalaya BJP held a condolence meeting at the Party Office on the 14th of May to pay tribute to the departed soul
