The Committee on Petitions of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, in collaboration with the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Ri Bhoi, held an awareness programme with Block Development Officers (BDOs), Self Help Groups (SHGs), and NGOs on June 30 in Nongpoh.
The programme was chaired by Brightstarwell Marbaniang, MLA (Mawlai) and Acting Chairman of the Committee, in the absence of Chairman Pongseng Marak. Committee members Remington Gabil Momin (Rambrai-Jyrngam), Charles Marngar (Mawhati), and Dr. Mizanur Rahman Kazi (Rajabala) were present, along with Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem and Ri Bhoi DC Abhilash Baranwal.
All four BDOs of the district attended the event, which aimed to raise awareness about the role of the Petition Committee as a bridge between citizens and the Legislative Assembly.
Marbaniang stressed the importance of legislative awareness and citizen participation. Other members highlighted the Committee’s mandate, urging SHGs and NGOs to raise community concerns through the petitioning process.

Participants welcomed the initiative and engaged with the Committee, sharing issues faced at the grassroots level.
