    A 60-year-old woman died of COVID-19, pushing the death toll in the state to 82 on Tuesday.

    Phul Dkhar, a resident of Umpling Dongshaneng, Shillong passed away at the Shillong civil hospital on October 25. She was tested positive for COVID-19, Director of Health and Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.

    “The cause of death was due to cardiac arrest with acute pulmonary oedema with severe anaemia with hypertension,” he said.

    The state has also recorded recovery of 172 COVID-19 patients and 70 new cases on Tuesday.

    The new cases include 41 from East Khasi Hills district, 14 West Garo Hills district, 5 each in East Jaintia Hills district, South Garo Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district.

    Out of the 172 recovered COVID-19 patients, Dr War said, 100 are from East Khasi Hills, 41 Ri Bhoi, 16 West Garo Hills, 6 East Garo Hills, 3 North Garo Hills, 3 South Garo Hills, 2 West Jaintia Hills and 1 West Khasi Hills.

    He said 7,643 COVID-19 patients have been discharged as on date.

    The state has detected a total of 9,136 COVID-19 out of which 1,411 are active cases, 7,643 recovered and 82 deaths.

    East Khasi Hills district tops the list of districts in positive cases with 802  infections, that include 26 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 776 civilians, followed by Ri Bhoi 183and West Garo Hills 162.

    In the other districts, 100 cases in West Jaintia Hills, 44 in East Garo Hills, 50 in West Khasi Hills, 29 in South Garo Hills, 17 in North Garo Hills, 17 in East Jaintia Hills, 2 in South West Khasi Hills and 5 in South West Garo Hills.

    Over 694persons are undergoing home quarantine and isolation while 505 persons are under institutional quarantine.

    “Till date, swab samples of 1,98,790 persons have been tested of which 1,89,654 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.

    There are 52,414 entrants from outside the state.
