  • Meghalaya: 53 cops among 155 persons test positive for COVID-19

    Fifty-three police personnel were among the 155 persons who have tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, taking the total number of active cases to 1,034.

    Director of Heallth Services (MI), Dr Aman War said 69 cases were detected from East Khasi Hills district, 61 Ri Bhoi district, 11 West Garo Hills district, 7 East Garo Hills district, 5 South Garo Hills district and 2 West Jaintia Hills district.

    He said the new cases also include 53 police personnel of which 50 are from Ri Bhoi and 1 each from East Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills and East Garo Hills and three are health workers from East Garo Hills (2) and South Garo Hills (1).

    Of the 116 COVID-19 patients who recovered from the infection, Dr War said 30 are from West Garo HIlls, 29 Ri Bhoi, 27 East Khasi Hills, 13 East Garo Hills, 8 South Garo Hills, 7 West Jaintia Hills, 1 South West Garo Hills and 1 South West Khasi Hills. 

    The state has detected a total of 10,202 COVID-19 out of which 1,034 are active cases, 9,075 recovered and 93 deaths.

    Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 302 positive cases that include 19 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 283 civilians, Ri Bhoi 313, West Garo Hills 123, West Jaintia Hills 103, East Garo HIlls 82, East Jaintia Hills 50, North Garo Hills 14, West Khasi Hills 14, South Garo Hills 15, South West Garo Hills 17 and South West Khasi Hills 1.

    “Till date, swab samples of 2,10,079 persons have been tested of which 2,00,032 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.

    There are 56,057 entrants from outside the state.
