    Four more persons have died due to COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the death toll in the state to 68.

    80-year-old Morning Niangti of Qualapatty and Ginalin Kurkalang (33) of 5th Mile died at Dr H Gordon Robert’s Hospital, Indu Dev Sahni (40) of Jhalupara at Nazareth hospital and Iohhun Khongkrom (18) of Pynursla at NEIGRIHMS hospital, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.

    Meanwhile, the State also recorded 67 new cases and 133 new recoveries on Tuesday.

    The senior medical officer informed that the new cases include 45 from East Khasi Hills district, 10 West Garo Hills district, 5 Ri Bhoi district, 2 North Garo Hills district, 2 South Garo Hills district, 1 East Jaintia Hills district, 1 South West Garo Hills district and 1 West Jaintia Hills district.

    Out of the 133 recovered COVID-19 patients, Dr War said, 95 are from East Khasi Hills, 19 West Garo Hills, 3 Ri Bhoi, 2 East Garo Hills, 2 South West Garo Hills and 1 West Jaintia Hills.

    He said 5,406 COVID-19 patients have been discharged as on date.

    The state has detected a total of 7,841 COVID-19 out of which 2,367 are active cases, 5,406 recovered and 68 deaths.

    East Khasi Hills district tops the list of districts in positive cases with 1,649 infections, that include 35 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 1,614 civilians, followed by Ri Bhoi 327 and West Garo Hills 169.

    In the other districts, 80 cases in West Jaintia Hills, 22 in South West Garo Hills, 12 in East Jaintia Hills, 37 in South Garo Hills, 22 in North Garo Hills, 25 in South West Khasi Hills, 18 in East Garo Hills and 6 in West Khasi Hills.

    “Till date, swab samples of 1,76,348 persons have been tested of which 1,68,500 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.

    There are 47,663 entrants from outside the state.
