    SHILLONG: Medals aplenty were distributed today on the third day of the Meghalaya Games 2019-20 as six different disciplines – archery, athletics, boxing, wushu, taekwondo and shooting – concluded.

    In archery, which was held in Laitumkhrah, East Khasi Hills and Mawkyrwat District Sports Association won two team events respectively. In the individual events there were two archers who won double gold medals – Affica Hegracia Susngi in recurve and Phermiki Salahe in compound.

    Shooting, at Happy Valley, saw Shirley Mary Kharbuli take gold in the 25m sports pistol women, while there were also golds for Walsall M Momin (25m standard pistol men), Anjali Singh (10m rifle women), Banrilang Bleine (10m rifle men), Balarishisha Rani (10m pistol women), Pynkhraw Kharshiing (10m pistol men), Anjali Singh (50m rifle prone women) and Banrilang Bleine (50m rifle prone men).

    Among the gold medal winners in wushu, at Nongthymmai, were Khamtimon Rympei (65kg female), Ibansabel Myrthong (40kg female), Melvin Malngiang (48kg men), Army Roi Iakai (54kg men) and Heilin Rongpeit (52kg female).

    Taekwondo saw winners such as Kyrshanlang Dkhar (junior boys U-45kg), Sahil Singh (junior boys U-51kg), Rishi Kant Singh (junior boys U-55kg), Asha Sunar (junior girls U-48kg) crowned at Laban Indoor Stadium.

    The JN Indoor Stadium thrummed with the loud cheers of team mates and general spectators as the final boxing bouts concluded today. Among the gold medallists were Pynshailang Sohshang, Deep Biswa, Bainlumlin L Nongpiur, Monalisha Vishlux and Eva Waynie Marbaniang.

    Meanwhile, two other events began today – badminton and swimming.

    East Khasi Hills defeated Ri-Bhoi 3-1 in the mixed team badminton championship at U Tirot Sing Syiem Indoor Stadium, while there were plenty of races that took place in the swimming events at Crinoline Swimming Pool.

    Tomorrow tennis at Shillong Club and basketball at the JN Stadium will conclude.
