Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the government is awaiting response from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India.

He said the state government is taking all possible steps to urge upon the Government of India to examine and consider the proposal while replying to a query raised by Mawlai MLA PT Sawkmie

Sawkmie said two years have lapsed since the passing of the official resolution on the matter.

“I think it will be proper (if the government) bring a resolution to remind the Centre on this issue,” he said while pointing out that the state of Manipur had passed a resolution on ILP three times.

Urging the need to pursue the issue, Sawkmie also suggested the government to request the MPs from the state to also take up with the Centre.

To this, the chief minister said the government has showed its seriousness on the issue by passing an official resolution on December 19, 2019 and submitting the same to the Centre on November 23, 2019.

“Post that, I have also personally followed up with the Government of India and had written two letters to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and a memorandum by the cabinet was also submitted when he came to attend the meeting of the NEC,” he said.

“Continuous efforts are on from our side. Discussion and talks are taking place as the issue requires continuous engagement with the Government of India,”” Sangma added.

He also assured that the suggestion of the member has been noted but MPs once in a while have been taking up the ILP issue with the Centre.
