    SHILLONG: A Manipuri woman was arrested along with huge cache of heroin worth over Rs 74 lakh from Madanrting area in the city here on Thursday.

    East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Claudia A Lyngwa said the woman identified as Vansosiem (38) of Saiden village, Churachandpur district in Manipur was apprehended by the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) team along with officers of Madanrting police station.

    The accused was staying at Demthring Block-I and from her possession 32 soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing 393.38 grams was seized, Lyngwa said. According to her, the street value of the contraband is approximately Rs 74.74 lakh.

    Police are going after big drug dealers in their continuous effort to control the supply chain of drugs from other states into Meghalaya.

    The SP further informed that another lady Kimboi Hmar was also arrested in connection with the case and investigation is still going on.

    “Police is not ruling out further arrests and investigating the criminal conspiracy involved in bringing alleged contraband from Manipur to Shillong,” Lyngwa said.

    Last month, Kim Neikhol Khongsai (49) was also arrested after seizing 529 grams of heroin (from 39 soap cases) worth over Rs 1 crore from her rented house in the same area. Khongsai was booked under 21 (C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
