Man sentenced to 14 yrs in prison for raping a minor

SHILLONG: The Court of Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills District has sentenced one Henry Diengdoh to 14 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl six years ago.

 

The order was passed by Noor Ain Khan (MHJS), Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills, District, Shillong on Thursday.

 

Diengdoh was awarded 14 years rigorous imprisonment for the offence committed under section 6 of the POCSO Act 2012 with a fine of Rs 5000 only and in default of payment of fine the convict shall further undergo sentence of 3 months simple imprisonment.

 

Further the Court has also recommended compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to be paid to the victim by the State Government.

 

District SP Davis NR Marak said that Diengdoh was involved in raping a minor girl many times on July 2, 2013 and she was threatened with dire consequences.

 

The case was reported to the Police and the case was registered. After investigation the case was charge sheeted and the trial proceeded. The Charge against the accused was proved beyond reasonable doubt, he said.
