Man lost his life in Meghalaya for falling asleep while driving

In an ill fated incident, one lost his life after his car caught fire as he fell asleep while driving his car on Thursday.

Police said on Thursday at around 6:30 PM they received information that one vehicle caught fire in Wahiajer – Nartiang road and one person was trapped inside the vehicle.

Police team rushed to the spot and found one maruti zen vehicle was totally charred and the person has been shifted to Woodland WK Hospital, Sabahmuswang.

Police said during enquiry the occupant was identified as Abipaia Bareh from Nartiang village. He sustained grievous injuries in his person and was referred to Shillong for higher treatment. Police informed medical requisition was submitted to the Hospital with a request to record the dying declaration.

Police said the victim stated before the doctor that while driving the vehicle he lost control as he was sleepy and the vehicle fell on the road side where it caught fire. Bareh succumbed to his injuries on Thursday evening. Necessary legal formalities are being observed.
