Man found dead in Assembly hotel, Shillong

A person from Assam was found dead in a hotel room in Shillong on Thursday.

East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi informed that upon receipt of information from staff of Hotel Assembly in Police Bazar that one occupant of a room hadn’t come out for more than a day, Police team from Sadar PS, in presence of witnesses, broke open the door.

A dead body of the deceased named Sijo Joseph (47), resident of Beltola Road, Guwahati was found lying on the bed, he said.

The SP said that the inquest has been carried out and prima facie it seems to be a case of death due to overdose of sedatives and anti-depressants.

“No signs of foul play were seen. The body has been sent for post mortem. The family is being contacted and further investigation in this matter is being conducted,” he said.
