Man arrested for murdering wife at Nongrah, Shillong

A man was arrested for allegedly involved in the recent murder of his wife at their rented house at Nongrah, Nonglum.

“The accused identified as Donald Sohtun has been arrested after he surrendered himself,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem told reporters on Thursday.

“We are treating it as a special report case and we will soon chargesheet the case,” he said.

The SP said investigation revealed that the Sohtun was suspecting his wife Priya Khongstia of having an affair.

“They got into an argument and that is how he hit her (with a stone from the head),” he added.

Sohtun wrapped his wife’s body with a blanket and flet from the rented house. Her body was recovered after three days of the incident and an FIR was filed on May 30.

Asked, the SP said police along with the forensic team had visited the place of occurence.

With help of sniffer dogs, police were also able to trace the stone, which was used as a murder weapon.

Meanwhile, Sohtun has been sent to judicial custody.
