AITC Chairperson Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday met the families of the victims killed in a firing by Assam police at Mukroh village during her two-day visit to Meghalaya and expressed her deep anguish over the tragic incident.

The state party has extended an ex-gratia support of Rs 5 lakhs to each of the five families of the victims. The purpose of meeting with the victims’ family members was to express her solidarity in their hour of grief. She instructed her party members to stand by the families and fight for the due delivery of justice.

On November 22, five civilians from Meghalaya were killed in an open firing in Mukroh village, West Jaintia Hills along the disputed Assam-Meghalaya border.
