Lyngdoh condemns ‘misreporting’ by national media, says they sees growth of Meghalaya’s tourism as a threat

Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Thursday said the attitude of the national media only portrays their lack of understanding of Meghalaya and also a deep-seated malice towards the state and its people.
Condemning the national media for ‘misreporting’ the Indore couple case, Lyngdoh said the national media has always had a bias against the North East and they see the growth of Meghalaya’s tourism sector as a threat.
“Therefore, this attitude is most condemnable and most apprehensive.”
Lyngdoh said the recent murder case of the Indore resident (L) Raja Raghuvanshi is an isolated case.
“In fact we do not know what actually happened until all the investigation is completed, no final word can be said on the matter. Therefore, I vehemently condemned the attitude of the national media. It just shows their biasness against our region and especially with the growth of tourism in Meghaya, they see it as a threat,” he stated.
“But let me remind them and also the people of Meghalaya that Sohra Cherrapunjee has had decades of tourism without any blood on its character. There has been no record of any incidents of violence ever in the past and we have had the first missionaries who landed in Sohra in 1841, we have the Ram Krishna Mission, which has its biggest network in the state, with its headquarters in Sohra. So therefore, this attitude only portrays their lack of understanding of Meghalaya and also a deep-seated malice towards the state and its people,” the minister added further.
Meanwhile, search operations are on to rescue the wife of the deceased victim Sonam.
