One person was attacked by Bangladesh miscreants at a village along the international border in West Jaintia Hills district.

According to a statement issued by the BSF, one identified Bangladesh national Iqbal, a resident of Sylhet, Bangladesh along with 4 accomplices intruded in the betel nut orchard of Vijay Rongpih, a local resident of Amjalong village with an intention to steal betel nuts.

While carrying out the attempt of pilfering betel nuts, the owner detected trespassers and opposed them. On that, a skirmish took place between Bangladesh miscreants and the owner, it said.

During the scuffle, miscreants tried to drag the owner of orchard towards Bangladesh side but he resisted and called on villagers for aid.

On seeing villagers approaching, Bangladesh miscreants fled to Bangladesh leaving Vijay (the owner)  on the spot.

The BSF said the villagers exhibited a sensible attitude by not open fire on them but disperse the miscreants by just making uproar and commotion.

The incident took place at the same border where one Bangladesh national assaulted BSF troop with machete few days back, it said.

On being approached, PRO BSF Meghalaya Shillong  who confirmed the veracity of above incident and stated that BSF has many times warned and advised BGB to educate their people living in border area to refrain from such activities but in spite of the best efforts of BSF and BGB both, Bangladesh intruders keep on violating the sanctity of International boundary and become the target of local residents of India people living in border area.
