The Waheh shnong of Lapangap Deimonmi Lyngdoh said that the dorbar shnong has decided to not allow the district administration to uproot the tree saplings claiming that the farmland falls under the jurisdiction of Lapangap.

During a village meeting held on Friday morning, the dorbar shnong of Lapangap opposed the decision of the West Jaiñtia Hills District administration to uproot a tree sapling from farmland as per the demand of the Karbi residents.

It may be recalled that the Karbi’s have decided to allow the Pnar farmers to tend their paddy fields or to harvest if they uproot the tree saplings.

It was learnt that on Friday the Meghalaya Basin Office were asked by the district administration to uproot all the 70 saplings under MegLIFE project (JICA) which were planted by the residents of Lapangap.

It was on Thursday that the Karbi residents demanded to have the saplings uprooted failing which they will uproot the saplings on their own.
