East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger has initiated departmental action against a sub inspection (SI) of the Laban Police station for misconduct.

On September 9, a woman reported an assault by a taxi driver at Laban police station. Concerns were raised about the conduct of the officer on night duty, alleged to be under the influence of alcohol, leading to a dispute.

The women police station promptly assisted the victim and a case has been registered based on her FIR.

An enquiry was swiftly conducted by the Laban sector police officer and departmental action has been initiated by the SP, EKH against the officer concerned.

Terming the incident unfortunate, Nongtnger said, “We have taken prompt action against the SI R Marwein. He has been suspended.”

He also warned that East Khasi Hills police will not tolerate indiscipline. “We always reward police officers for their good deeds and we will also take stern action against their misdeeds and misconduct,” the SP stated.
