    The District and Sessions Court, West Jaintia Hills sentenced a man to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,000 for raping a woman 14 years back under the jurisdiction of Jowai Police Station.

    The guilty person, Kyrshanlang Sungoh is from Mookhap village. The case was registered vide Jowai P.S Case No. 165 (09) 2010 under Section 376 IPC. The investigation and charge sheet were conducted by WPSI O Tyngkan.

    After the culmination of the trial, the Court of NA Khan, MHJS, Sessions Judge, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai, found Kyrshanlang Sungoh guilty of rape under Section 376 IPC and sentenced him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment.

    Kyrshanlang Sungoh has also been ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 5,000 (Rupees Five Thousand). In default of payment of the fine, he shall further undergo simple imprisonment for one month.

    In addition, the Court has recommended compensation of Rs. 5,00,000 (Rupees Five Lakhs) for the victim.
