    Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jaintia Hills, Jowai celebrated World Water Day with the theme “Valuing Water” at Horticulture Hub, Thadlaskein on Tuesday.

    Senior Head & Scientist of KVK, Dr D.Pasweth highlighted the importance of valuing water especially nowadays in the main town/city as there is a scarcity of drinkable and usable water due to the growing population.

    Smt S Kynjing, ADA of District Agriculture Office call to attention the importance of water for farmers in cultivation. She stressed on the need to avoid felling of trees, stone crushing and mining as it hampers the water bodies.

    Shri J. Kharmawphlang, DPD of ATMA, West Jaintia Hills in his speech raised concerns on the pollution of the rivers in the state and the need for their cleanup and sanitization. He also encourages the farmers on usage of rainwater harvesting methods like Jalkund, etc.

    The technical session was given by Smt R. Lyngdoh, SMS(Agronomy) on the topic of ‘Water Conserving Technique in Agriculture’ and gave awareness on the different water conservation methods. Another technical session on ‘’Farmers’ Awareness Programme on District Agro-Meteorological Unit (DAMU) and its importance’’ was given by Smt. E. Jyrwa, SMS (Agro-meteorology). She introduced the farmers to the weather app, “MEGHDOOT” where farmers can get prior weather information so as necessary action can be taken in their farm.
