The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) South West Khasi Hills has decided to conduct an inspection to the site where the tanks for storage of uranium effluents is located in the district, on Tuesday.

The decision was taken following allegations that the tank storing the toxic effluents of the 1,993 uranium exploratory mining in Nangbah Jynrin exploded today.

“We will conduct an inspection to verify the incident tomorrow,” a statement issued by the KSU-SWKH said on Monday.

The statement also said that the union had in previous years taken up the issue related to the cracks in the tanks but nothing was done to address the concern.
