KSU threatens to lie down on the road as NHAI fails to repair NH 6

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), East Jaintia Hills District Unit, frustrated by NHAI’s failure to address their demands for the repair of the deteriorating stretch along National Highway-6, has decided to stage a protest by lying down the road in Khliehriat on September 25.
In a statement issued here, the KSU stated that it was decided at a meeting held on September 14 at Khliehriat and it has appealed to the public and other organizations to join the protest in which they would lie down on the road and threaten to continue the agitation for one week starting from September 25.
President of the union East Jaintia Hills Stremly N Suchen said, “We have decided on this after the NHAI is apathetic towards the demand of the union despite the first agitation at a tollgate in Lumshnong on August 8, 2023.”
The union claimed that there is no sign of the repair work despite the assurance of Manager (Technical) of the NHAI Biswa Jyoti Lahkar leaders of village of Narpuh and the KSU Narpuh leaders to start the repair work from August 9.
Recently, the union leaders visited Ratacherra and found that the road continues to be in bad condition.
