The Khasi Students Union (KSU) South East Central Circle and Federation of Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo People (FKJGP) Riwar Circle have taken proactive measures to ensure road safety on the Laitlyngkot to Mawlieh road.

After repeated requests to the state government and the company implementing the package II of the Shillong-Dawki road project fell on deaf ears, the organizations erected Radium Retro Reflective Tape (RRRT) along the stretch of the road on Saturday.

The use of RRRT is to increase visibility and prevent accidents, especially at night or in low-light conditions.

The KSU and FKJGP’s actions aim to prevent avoidable mishaps due to the company’s failure to follow safety norms during the construction of the road.

Despite numerous requests, the government and company have not taken necessary measures to ensure road safety, prompting the organizations to take matters into their own hands.

According to a joint statement issued by KSU-SECC president Basuklang Khongwar and FKJGP Ri War president Evanfield Khonglam, the organizations’ actions are in the interest of the people of Pynursla sub-division.

They have warned that if the government and company fail to take their responsibilities seriously and prioritize publice safety, they will take stern action in the coming days.
