The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Thursday demanded the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) to cancel the Consent to Establish (CoE) issued for the setting up of a coke plant at Thlakaru in East Jaintia Hills district.

In a statement, KSU Wapung Unit also extended full support to the Wapungskur dorbar shnong for opposing the setting up of LAM COKE Manufacturing Unit by the Om Om Coke within its jurisdiction and demanded the Dolloi of Jowai Elaka and headman of Mookhep village to immediately cancel the no-objection certificates (NOCs) issued by them to the company.

It had also reminded that the MPSCB had failed to take action on the complaint filed by the Union against the Abhi Coke at Mookhep for allegedly polluting the environment.

The KSU said it would soon conduct a follow up on the issue before taking stern action on the matter.
