KKHSOU pushes digital frontier with workshop on MOOC proposal development

Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) held a one-day consultancy workshop on “Developing MOOC Proposals” at its City Campus in Khanapara on Wednesday, drawing over 50 educators from colleges and universities across Assam.
Jointly organized by KKHSOU’s Committee for Generating Consultancy Assignments and the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA), the workshop aimed to build capacity in creating Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), with a focus on the SWAYAM platform—a Government of India initiative to promote open digital education.
The inaugural session featured Prof. R.P. Das, Vice Chancellor of KKHSOU, and Prof. N.N. Sarma, Director of CIQA. Both leaders underscored the growing importance of digital content in higher education and urged educators to take an active role in shaping the future of online learning.
The workshop included five technical sessions, two of which were hands-on modules conducted at KKHSOU’s Electronic Media Production Centre (EMPC). Topics ranged from understanding the SWAYAM MOOC framework to developing proposals, planning content production, and navigating the pre- and post-production process. Participants also explored strategies for institutional-level MOOC development.
KKHSOU’s own faculty members—who have collectively developed 22 SWAYAM MOOCs—served as resource persons, sharing practical insights and production know-how. The initiative is designed to strengthen technical skills, foster collaboration, and encourage more institutions in Assam to contribute to national digital education efforts.
Dr. Parag Dutta, Deputy Director of CIQA and workshop convenor, announced that more such training sessions are planned for this academic session. KKHSOU’s broader vision is to position Assam as a leader in online education innovation and to empower educators to reach learners beyond traditional classrooms.
