    The Meghalaya Arts & Culture Department will construct a statue of legendary freedom fighter of Jaintia Community U Kiang Nangbah near the Govt College christened after him in Jowai Town.

    This was informed by Jaintia Students Union (JSU) Central Body General Secretary Treiborlang Suchen after submission of memorandum to Arts & Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai in Shillong.

    They called for the erection of the statue of freedom fighter and patriotic leader U Woh Kiang Nangbah near Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai as there is no statue or bust of Kiang Nangbah in the surrounding areas.

    In a memorandum to Shullai, the Union informed the present structures of the building are totally worn out and has a very insufficient lights in the auditorium hall.

    They urged upon the state Government to redevelop and renovate the District Auditorium, Jowai in line of the District Library cum Auditorium hall in Tura.

    The JSU informed that East Jaintia Hills District doesn’t even have a district library and auditorium hall of its own in which most social, cultural and educational seminars and gatherings and even the Government functions and programmes was usually held and organised in small private halls and community halls in and around the district.

    The Union demanded a permanent District Library cum Auditorium hall for East Jaintia Hills District.

    The Union informed the newly constructed amphitheatre located in Mihmyntdu area inside the Police Reserve campus, Jowai has been left abandoned till date since the time of completion. There is neither proper maintenance nor any security and many anti- social elements now is being taken place in the above mentioned amphitheatre. They called for the inauguration of the amphitheatre so that it will benefits of the people and the students of Jaintia Hills.

    Shullai told the JSU leaders that the department will take necessary actions to make the amphitheatre operational and also renovate the District Auditorium in Jowai like that of Tura subject to availability of funds
