KHNAM legislator from North Shillong Adelbert Nongrum on Sunday asked the state government to change the timing of the load shedding.

“It has become very urgent to change the timing of load shedding so that during the dark hours of the night, no criminal is encouraged to take advantage of the situation,” Nongrum said in a statement.

He proposed that instead from 1 am to 5 am, the load shedding be imposed between 4 am to 7 am and 12 noon to 1 pm.

The MLA said that it is a matter of great concern that imposing the early morning load shedding has only allowed criminal elements in various parts of Meghalaya to take undue advantage of the situation.

“Indeed there is a direct correlation between early morning load shedding and rise in crime graphs in the state,” he added.

Stating that the government should correct the timing and take steps to bring down the crime rate, Nongrum said therefore, the voice of the public needs to be heard without any further delay. He also reminded that the government is by the people of the people and for the People.
