    The Court of B. Khriam, Special Judge (POCSO), East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, convicted Shambhu Ray for committing an offence against a minor and sentenced him to 7 (seven) years’ imprisonment for an offence punishable under Section 77 of the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection) Act, along with a fine of Rs. 30,000/- (Rupees Thirty Thousand).

    The Court also awarded compensation of Rs. 4,00,000/- (Rupees Four Lakhs) only, to be paid to the minor survivor.

    The Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District, informed that Ray was arrested and charge-sheeted in connection with Khliehriat Police Station Case No. 27(04)2023 under Section 5(m)/ 6 of the POCSO Act.

    Meanwhile, the Court of B. Khriam, Special Judge (POCSO), East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, convicted Peitlang Bamon for committing an offence against a minor and sentenced him to 4 (four) and 3 (three) years’ imprisonment for offences punishable under Sections 8 and 12 of the POCSO Act, along with a fine of Rs. 20,000/- (Rupees Twenty Thousand) for each section only.

    The Superintendent of Police further informed that Bamon was arrested and charge-sheeted in connection with Khliehriat Women Police Station Case No. 32(08)2021 under Section 7/8/11(i)/12/18 of the POCSO Act.

    The Court pronounced that in default of payment, Bamon will serve an additional 1 (one) month of simple imprisonment.

    The Court also announced compensation of Rs. 1,50,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Fifty Thousand) only, to be paid to the minor survivor.
