Former NPP state president and lone Rajya Sabha MP Dr WR Kharlukhi on Tuesday took a jibe at the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP)’s decision to demand for an independent inquiry into the alleged failure of the government to conduct a free and fair elections to the JHADC – by saying that party is against of muscle power but is very much in favour of “gundaism”.

Speaking to media persons, Dr Kharlukhi said, “Today I have read (in the news) that they (VPP) are asking for an inquiry into their loss in Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) polls. Like what our MLA from Jowai had said, these people when they are losing election it is unfair but when they win it is okay.”

While rubbishing the VPP’s claim that the use of muscle power was the main reason for its defeated in the JHADC polls, the NPP leader however said, “You know I still have the video of what had happened after the election in which the house of our supporter was attacked and pelted stones. I didn’t see these people, who love the jaidbynriew – because the people, whose house destroyed by their mobs they were also Jaintia people – so I didn’t see any condemnation from their leader, who really love the jaidbynriew.”

“They said muscle power but this is nothing but gundaism so which means they are against muscle power but is in favour of gundaism,” he stated.
