Continuing the tradition, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday celebrated the pious festival of Raksha Bandhan with sisters of Brahma Kumari and students of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya in Itanagar.

As the Brahma Kumaris and the VKV students tied the sacred threads around his wrist, Khandu blessed them with good health and a prosperous life and offered them, sweets, as gifts.

Speaking to his ‘sisters’, Khandu said that Rakshabandhan is a reminder to all males of the society to create a world of safety, peace and happiness for the womenfolk.

“As a government, we are committed to ensure the safety to the women of the state and offer them an atmosphere where they can contribute and walk shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts. As a human being and a man, I must teach my sons to respect women and ensure their dignity is never harmed,” he said.

Khandu called upon all brothers to stand up for their sisters and all men to stand up for the women of the society. This, he pointed out, is the main objective of Rakshabandhan.
